I’m marinating in a stew of creative ideas this morning. Book I, the first in my seven-book series, is well underway! Oh, I wish I could share…. there are so many things I want to talk about, but I have to keep my mouth shut!!!! One word… EPIC!
Creating a story from a tiny seed of inspiration, and looking back and seeing how much it has evolved, taken on a life of its own, and has begun to live and breathe outside of your mind is nothing short of exhilarating. It is a lot of hard work, but there is nothing I’d rather be doing. Whenever we create something, we are projecting our cognitive ideas out of our minds and into the world. When we create, we bring thoughts and ideas to life. That is pure magic.

My FAQs page is finally up!
Writing a book is such a major process that involves all your resources–mental, physical, and emotional to name a few. But it would be really easy for me to just trudge on with planning my seven-book series, writing and editing Book I of that series, and forget to acknowledge all that has gone into it. Answering these questions was fun, therapeutic, and has also reminded me of a valuable lesson: we should always reflect on our accomplishments, acknowledge our hard work, rediscover all the highlights, and swim in them for a bit as we celebrate small goals and major milestones!!!!!
If you’re interested in diving a little deeper into my novel-writing process, check out my new FAQs! And please share your own insights and experiences in the comments section below.
Happy reading and novel writing!

Who else out there is a writer? Have you ever worked with an editor to help guide your novel-writing process? I’ve recently found a fabulous editor through Kirkus Editing Services. When I read that their editors are all experts from the nation’s top publishing houses, I said yes please! Sign me up!
Other than my husband, my new editor at Kirkus was the first person to read my manuscript, and so of course I was terrified. After submitting a preliminary draft of Book I to her, I spent the weeks that followed biting my nails and pacing the floor until I finally saw her review pop up in my inbox. Waiting for my thundering heart to chill, catching my breath, I sat down and went through her edits and comments one by one, digesting each one before moving on to the next. Her insight and invaluable feedback cast a spotlight on the great things, and also the flaws and areas that need improvement. Some things were easier to hear than others, but I know she has done me the greatest service: giving me a chance to improve my work, think about things a little deeper, develop things a bit further, and take my story from good to great! So now that I’ve received her feedback, I am digesting it all, reflecting on it all, and reevaluating where I am taking Book I and the entire series. I have a lot of work ahead – plotting, planning, researching, fleshing out the core idea of my story, and mapping out each book more carefully. Then, I will dive back in, revise, and tell my beloved story so much better.
As you wait patiently for more progress updates from me, you can go check out Facebook and Twitter for another new fancy schmancy author photo! And don’t forget to follow me on Goodreads to see all the awesome books I’m reading for knowledge and inspiration!

Welcome to the official website of K. M. Fernandes!
I can’t wait to take you down the wonderful, adventurous, mind-bending, challenging, stunning road of plotting and planning a seven-book series, and writing and publishing my first novel: Book I of the series!
It’s very exciting to see this dream coming true. I first imagined writing a book 10+ years ago. Then three years ago, I started scribbling down the first ideas for my seven-book series on a piece of scrap paper (in my car on the side of the road beside a bunch of cows). Now, I’m staring at my first draft, and I’m seeing my first editor to review it. Every obstacle I’ve surmounted to get here where I’m standing now makes the journey even sweeter! Writing a book is an amazing feat, and I have deep respect for anyone that has ever taken on the task. Making the social (and sleep) sacrifices to get it done. Facing the demons (mental, physical, emotional) that try to derail us. Holding on tight to our beloved ideas, developing them, encouraging them to evolve, and letting them guide us to The End.
For those of you that have been following my progress, thank you all for your support! A huge thanks to Brian Wagner for awesome web management, photography skills, and a ton of invaluable social media advice. And an extra huge I can’t thank you enough to my husband for all his creative, emotional, motivational, and technical support!!!
Now that I’ve launched my new website, stay tuned for more blog posts and website updates including a FAQ page, an author bio, and new ways to connect with me and my progress.
